Diplomat

Diplomat (/dɪpləmæt/; from the Ancient Greek δίπλωμα, meaning "folded in two") is a term used to describe an individual appointed by a state or an organization to conduct diplomacy with one or more other states or international organizations. The main functions of diplomats revolve around the representation and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending state, as well as the promotion of information and friendly relations.

Etymology

The term diplomat is derived from the Greek word δίπλωμα (diploma), meaning "a folded document," and it refers to the credentials that an ambassador would carry from their monarch for presentation to a foreign monarch.
