Defervescence (pronunciation: /dɪˌfɜːrˈvɛsəns/) is a medical term that refers to the subsiding or abatement of a fever. The term is derived from the Latin word 'defervescere', which means 'to stop boiling'.

Definition

Defervescence is the period during which the body temperature returns to normal after a fever. This process can occur gradually, in a process known as lysis, or suddenly, in a process known as crisis.
