Data analysis (pronunciation: /ˈdeɪtə əˈnælɪsɪs/), also known as data analytics or information analysis, is a process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, and supporting decision-making.
Etymology
The term "data analysis" is derived from the English words "data", meaning "facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis", and "analysis", meaning "detailed examination of the elements or structure of something". The term has been in use since the mid-20th century, with the rise of computers and digital technology.
