Convection

Convection (/kənˈvɛkʃən/) is a process in which heat is transferred by the mass movement of molecules within fluids such as gases and liquids, including molten rock. Convection takes place through advection, diffusion or both.

Etymology

The term "convection" comes from the Latin word "convectionem", meaning "a bringing together". It was first used in the scientific sense in the 1620s in reference to heat transfer.
