Contamination (/kənˌtæmɪˈneɪʃən/) refers to the presence of an unwanted constituent, contaminant or impurity in a material, physical body, natural environment, workplace, etc.

The term "contamination" is derived from the Latin word contaminare, which means "to make impure".
