Confluence (medicine)

Confluence (/kɒnˈfluːəns/; from Latin confluere, "to flow together") is a term used in various fields of medicine to describe the process where two or more lesions merge or flow together.

Definition

In the field of dermatology, confluence refers to the merging of lesions on the skin. This can occur in conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and rashes where individual lesions grow and merge to form a larger affected area.

In neurology, the term is used to describe the merging of white matter lesions in conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis.
