Club drugs (/klʌb drʌgz/), also known as party drugs or recreational drugs, are a loosely defined category of recreational drugs which are associated with discothèques in the 1970s and nightclubs, dance clubs, electronic dance music (EDM) parties, and raves in the 1980s to today.
Etymology
The term "club drug" originated in the late 20th century, in reference to the popularity of certain substances within the nightclub, rave, and party scenes. The term is used predominantly by the media, law enforcement, and government agencies.

Effects and Risks
Club drugs are known for their psychoactive effects, altering perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, or behavior. These drugs can have serious health effects, including addiction, and can be particularly dangerous when combined with alcohol or other drugs.
