Cleaning (pronunciation: /ˈkliːnɪŋ/) is the process of removing unwanted substances, such as dirt, infectious agents, and other impurities, from an object or environment.

Etymology

The term "cleaning" comes from the Old English clǣne which means "clear, pure, unblemished; innocent".
