Census

A Census (/ˈsɛnsəs/ from Latin: censere "to estimate") is a systematic procedure that collects and records the demographic information about the members of a given population. This term is used mostly in connection with national population and housing censuses; other common censuses include agricultural, traditional culture, business, and traffic censuses.

Etymology

The term Census originates from the Latin word censere, which means "to estimate". The practice of conducting a census dates back to ancient Rome, where it was used to assess taxes and military service.
