CYP2D6 (pronounced "sip-two-dee-six") is a gene that is responsible for encoding the Cytochrome P450 2D6 enzyme. This enzyme plays a crucial role in the metabolism of many drugs and toxins in the human body.

Etymology

The term "CYP2D6" is derived from the larger family of Cytochrome P450 enzymes it belongs to. The "CYP" stands for "Cytochrome P450", while "2D6" is a specific subtype of this family.

Function
