Budtender (pronunciation: /bʌdˌtɛndər/) is a term used in the cannabis industry to refer to an individual who works in a dispensary or store where medical or recreational marijuana is sold. Their role is similar to that of a bartender, but instead of serving alcohol, they provide customers with advice and recommendations on cannabis strains, products, and usage.

Etymology

The term "budtender" is a portmanteau of the words "bud", a colloquial term for the flower of the cannabis plant, and "bartender", a person who serves usually alcoholic beverages behind the bar in a licensed establishment.

Roles and Responsibilities

A budtender's primary role is to provide excellent customer service in a cannabis dispensary. They are responsible for assisting customers in selecting the right strains of cannabis for their needs and educating them about the effects, benefits, and risks of various cannabis products. Budtenders must have a deep understanding of the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds found in cannabis, as well as the different consumption methods, such as smoking, vaping, edibles, and topicals.
