Biophysics

Biophysics (pronounced: bio-phy-sics) is an interdisciplinary science that applies the principles of physics and chemistry and the methods of mathematical analysis and computer modeling to understand how biological systems work.

Etymology

The term "biophysics" is derived from the words "biology" and "physics". "Biology" comes from the Greek words "bios" meaning life and "logia" meaning study. "Physics" comes from the Greek word "physis" which means nature.

Definition

Biophysics is the field of science that uses the techniques of physics to study biological structures and systems. It seeks to explain how life as we know it is affected by the physical properties and behaviors of energy and matter.
