Bending

Bending (/ˈbɛndɪŋ/) is a term used in various fields of medicine to describe the act or process of curving, typically in reference to a part of the body. The term is derived from the Old English bendan, meaning "to bend, bow, or curve."

In Orthopedics

In orthopedics, bending refers to the movement of a joint that decreases the angle between the bones that converge at the joint. For example, bending the elbow, or flexion, decreases the angle between the humerus and the ulna.

In Radiology

In radiology, bending can refer to the distortion of an image caused by the curvature of the body part being imaged. This is often corrected for in the processing of the image.

In Physical Therapy

In physical therapy, bending exercises are often prescribed to improve flexibility and range of motion. These exercises can involve bending at the waist, knees, elbows, or other joints.
