Bavaria (pronunciation: /bəˈvɛəriə/; German: Bayern, pronounced [ˈbaɪɐn]) is a federal state of Germany, located in the southeastern part of the country.

Etymology

The name Bavaria is derived from the Old High German word Baiuvarii, which means "Land of the Baia people". The Baia were a Germanic tribe who lived in the region during the 6th century.
