Balapiravir

Balapiravir (pronunciation: /ˌbæləˈpɪrəvɪr/) is an antiviral drug that was initially developed for the treatment of hepatitis C. It is a nucleoside analogue, which means it mimics the structure of nucleosides, the building blocks of DNA and RNA.

Etymology

The name "Balapiravir" is derived from the Latin words bala meaning "strength" and piravir meaning "against virus".

Mechanism of Action

Balapiravir works by inhibiting the replication of the virus's RNA. It is incorporated into the viral RNA and causes premature termination of the RNA chain, thereby preventing the virus from replicating.
