TRANZ plant) A procedure in which a patient's healthy stem cells (blood-forming cells) are removed from their blood or bone marrow before treatment, stored, and returned to the patient after treatment. Autologous stem cell transplantation replaces a patient's stem cells that have been destroyed by treatment with radiation or high-dose chemotherapy. Autologous stem cell transplantation is most commonly used to treat blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma
