Artefact

Artefact (pronounced: /ˈɑːrtɪfækt/), also spelled artifact, is a term used in various fields, including medicine, to refer to an artificial result or feature not naturally present but caused by an external agent or action. The term is derived from the Latin words "ars," meaning "art," and "factum," meaning "to make."

In the medical field, an artefact can refer to a distortion or error in the results of a scientific experiment, medical test, or clinical observation. This distortion or error is not due to the natural variation of the subject or phenomenon being studied, but rather to external factors such as the methods or instruments used in the study or observation.
