Academia (/əˈkædɪmiə/; from the Ancient Greek: Ἀκαδημία) is the community of students and scholars engaged in higher education and research. The term is derived from the Plato's Academy, an institution of higher learning in ancient Greece.

Etymology

The term "academia" is derived from the Ancient Greek: Ἀκαδημία (Akadēmía), which refers to a place of learning or higher education. The name comes from the Akademos, a legendary hero in Greek mythology, after whom the Academy in Athens was named.
