Abuser

Abuser (/əˈbjuːzər/; from Latin abusus, past participle of abuti to misuse) is a term used to describe an individual who consistently mistreats, manipulates, or takes advantage of another person or persons, often through means of physical, emotional, or sexual harm.

Definition

An abuser is a person who regularly or habitually inflicts physical, emotional, or sexual harm onto others. This can occur in various contexts, such as in domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and sexual abuse. The term can also be applied to individuals who misuse substances, known as substance abusers.

Etymology

The term abuser is derived from the Latin word abusus, which is the past participle of abuti. Abuti translates to misuse, thus directly relating to the actions of an abuser.
